The restaurants ofStory Garden<\/em>They do not operate within the usual urban space, but rather choose to locate themselves on its quiet fringes, in the heart of green parks, on the banks of lakes, in places where the city makes room to breathe. This choice predefines the experience of visiting: no longer a restaurant as part of a commercial continuum, but a destination. A place you come to specifically, to stop, slow down, and enter a parallel world where nature, light, and space are an integral part of the hospitality.<\/p>\n

Ofri Paz | STANNEL<\/p>\n

The design of the chain is based on a constant idea of connection to pastoralism, but avoids copying or duplication. Each branch is planned as an independent project, one that responds first and foremost to the environment in which it is planted – the landscape, the local color, the light, the climate, and the human flow.<\/p>\n

In Ohayon Park, on the shores of the ecological lake, the concept is drawn directly from the environment: the green that penetrates, the reflecting water, the soft vegetation and the feeling of an open space disconnected from dense commercial areas. All of these have been translated into a rich but effortless material language, one that feels natural to the place.<\/p>\n

The main desire in the design was to create a restaurant consisting of different areas, ones that allow for diverse seating experiences: a dynamic and lively central area, more intimate corners, a VIP area that provides a sense of privacy, and an open bar that connects the kitchen to the guests. The division is not done through closed walls, but through materials, textures, heights, ceilings, and semi-transparent elements, which create a continuous flow and a space that feels large, soft, and inviting.<\/p>\n

Within this framework, a particularly rich material language was chosen, one that combines ceramics, plaster, textiles, metal and acoustic ceilings, and manages to create depth and interest without being overwhelming. Each material was chosen not only for its appearance, but also for its ability to create a sense of subtle drama and connection to the surrounding nature.<\/p>\n

Design from the skeleton \u2013 connecting function and experience<\/strong><\/p>\n

“I received the building in a skeleton state,” which allowed for full and precise planning of all layers of the project. The kitchen design was done in collaboration with kitchen consultants Aryeh and Omri, in parallel with the design of the floor and the bathrooms. The connection between the areas is clearly expressed in the open kitchen with the dominant hob and the two long bars, which create a direct connection between the preparation process and the sitting experience, says the designer.<\/p>\n

In the center of the space, a large seating island was designed that also serves as a planter, an element that divides the space, defines areas, and serves as a focal point. The island is upholstered in a deep purple fabric, and above it is a ceiling printed with a floral print that draws the eye right from the entrance. The ceiling is not only a design element, but a tool that blurs the limitation of low height and creates a sense of depth.<\/p>\n

Art Deco-patterned metal partitions were incorporated as part of the planters and continue into the VIP area. They create a sense of intimacy without closing off the space, playing with transparency and repetition, and allowing for the demarcation of areas without actually making them smaller.<\/p>\n

Acoustic ceilings as a design element<\/strong><\/p>\n

One of the key challenges was the low, sloping ceiling, which required a precise acoustic solution. In a busy public restaurant, the quality of the acoustics determines the quality of the stay \u2013 whether the space will feel calm or noisy and tiring.<\/p>\n

As part of the collaboration withGolmet Group<\/strong>A dedicated acoustic ceiling system was incorporated, based on innovative technology that allowsDirect graphic printing on acoustic ceiling tiles<\/strong>, without compromising absorption capacity.<\/p>\n

We developed the graphic concept together with Tamara Moyal, with the idea of creating continuity between the outdoor park and the interior space. The floral print is an abstract interpretation of vegetation and the organic movement of leaves. The color palette was calibrated to blend in with the purples, greens, and reds of the space.<\/p>\n

The technology allows for full adaptation of the image to the project, while maintaining high acoustic performance \u2013 noise absorption, reverberation reduction and improved speech clarity even during peak hours. The ceiling is not just a technical solution; it is a designed \u201csky\u201d that expands the space and tells a story.<\/p>\n

Special ceramic tiles as an architectural language<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the bar area, we chose to refine the language with mint-colored, geometric, three-dimensional tiles, which create a play of light and shadow that adds depth and dynamism. The fresh color recalls the green outside, but the graphic interpretation gives it a more precise and contemporary character. Alongside them, handmade terracotta bar stools were incorporated, adding a rough, warm material presence. The connection between the geometric tiles and the natural terracotta creates an interesting tension between modern and traditional, between sharp lines and organic texture.<\/p>\n

Terrazzo tiles were chosen to pave the space as a kind of path in a garden. They outline a gentle movement in the space, almost like a paved road that runs between trees and vegetation, and lead the diner from the entrance to the depths of the restaurant. Beyond aesthetics, it was important that the flooring be suitable for a restaurant that hosts hundreds of people a day. Terrazzo provides the exact balance between beauty and material strength. It is resistant to intense abrasion, maintains a uniform appearance over time and copes well with a high rate of use, without losing its character and depth, close collaboration around the development of the concept and design language withCreating ceramics<\/strong>, led the designer to choose a variety of tiles from different worlds, and to import each tile in any shape from anywhere in the world.<\/p>\n

Material, light and flow<\/strong><\/p>\n

Complementing the rich materiality, dominant lighting fixtures were chosen to define the VIP area and the central island and highlight the curved wall with decorative plaster. The constructive constraints – many columns and a low ceiling – became an opportunity: illuminated metal arches around the columns resemble palm trees and reinforce the sense of organic flow.<\/p>\n

Story Garden in Ohayon Park is a project where every layer from the ceramics to the ceiling works together. It is a space that connects nature and hospitality, between function and aesthetics, and proves that restaurant design can be both technically precise and emotionally rich. A place that brings the park inside \u2013 down to the last detail.<\/p>\n
