On a mountainside in Karmiel, above the street line and within an envelope of glass, stone, and wood, a house was built that creates interest in every corner. The house, which was planned and designed by architectural engineer and interior designer Moran Tao for a couple and their three teenage children, spans approximately 250 square meters on two levels and presents a modern, luxurious and presentable language, one that is not afraid of dramatic materials, unusual details and precise connections between architecture, carpentry and lighting.<\/p>\n

Tao joined the project already at the skeleton stage, and from that moment detailed planning work began that touched on the division of spaces, carpentry, lighting and the choice of materials. The family sought to create a luxurious and impressive living environment, rich in details and visual focal points. “They wanted every space they came into to have something interesting, each space to be a show in itself,” says Tao. “Some people are looking for softness, delicacy and comfort, and they were looking for a house that would be interesting to look at, without being afraid in the choice of materials and shades. “Or by combining special elements. From this I understood that it was going to be a modern, luxurious and very impressive style house.”<\/p>\n

One of the places where the meeting between architectural language and the feeling of comfort is expressed particularly precisely is the master bedroom. Alongside the glass, mirrors and porcelain surfaces, a bed was integrated into the room. New Bagheera<\/strong> The adjustable Hollandia<\/strong>, featuring an elegant headboard with vertical lines sewn along its length and adjustable Champion bases, powered by quiet Direct Drive motors. For the project, the bed was upholstered in a soft, huggable shade that matched the room’s material palette, while its curved lines integrated with the design language of the space.<\/p>\n

“The softness comes from the upholstered, rounded Dutchie bed,” explains Tao. “We chose a soft, huggable fabric in an elegant shade for it, and we created a contrast with it using the curtain. The wall behind the bed combines the two shades, of the bed and the curtain, and is covered in porcelain tiles that are also repeated on the top of the bedside tables. There was thorough and meticulous planning here that gave the space an extra special layer.”<\/p>\n

The master suite was designed as a wide rectangle, with a glass curtain wall on one side that defines the bathroom. The choice of glass echoes the material language that appears in the public spaces, but here it takes on a warmer and more intimate character. The wall of closets is entirely covered in mirrors, from floor to ceiling and wall to wall, expanding the sense of space through a play of reflections and light. The radii of the bed continue with the carpentry and mirrors, softening the straight lines and large cladding surfaces, while rose gold-toned light fixtures connect the shades of the parquet and curtain with the sink cabinet in the bathroom. The dressers are also not standard items: the right-hand dresser, located between the bed and the transparent bathroom, was designed at two heights and serves as both a side table and a makeup table. “Every piece of furniture in the room is interesting in its own right; nothing is banal,” says Tao.<\/p>\n

The topography of the lot influenced the organization of the house: the street and parking levels are lower than the living areas, and access to the house is via stairs or an elevator. The wide entrance door, which opens by turning on a pivot, is covered with porcelain plates that also extend to the surrounding walls and the roof. Concealed LED lighting emphasizes the surfaces and gives the entrance a bright and impressive appearance, without overloading it. “The entrance is impressive and bright, and at the same time minimalist and clean,” says Tao. “There is nothing flashy or cluttered about it.”<\/p>\n

The front door opens onto the public level, where the kitchen, dining area and living room are connected to each other and to the courtyard. Natural marble, glass and wood veneer make up the main material palette, while large windows, left without curtains, create a direct connection between the interior and the landscape and courtyards. The three-dimensional joinery serves as a connecting thread between the spaces of the house. Plays of width, depth and height create an array of rectangles and asymmetrical shapes, which appear, among other things, in the kitchen island, the dining area and the wall behind the floating staircase, which is highlighted by hidden lighting and accompanied by a glass railing.<\/p>\n

The stairs lead to the upper floor, where the children’s rooms, two bathrooms and the laundry room are located, while maintaining the openness and lines of sight in the space. “The carpentry book for this house was very large,” says Tao. “Each room was given its own adaptation according to who lives in it, in terms of materials, shades, and needs, so that this element recurs throughout the house, but each time it takes on a slightly different expression.”<\/p>\n

The spacious kitchen was designed for a family where cooking and shared meals are a central part of the daily routine. At its center stands a massive island made of natural marble, with a three-dimensional structure that gives it an almost sculptural appearance, alongside work and storage surfaces that were adapted to the homeowner, who cooks and bakes frequently.<\/p>\n

The array of tall cabinets conceals two doors within it: one leads to the utility room, which was converted into a walk-in closet for the homeowner, and the other to a guest bathroom. The bathroom is covered in porcelain tiles with golden veins, and light fixtures were incorporated into it that extend from the walls to the ceiling, creating a kind of gate in the shape of the letter H. In this way, even a functional and relatively small space is given a distinct design identity.<\/p>\n

The living room benefits from a double-height space and huge windows facing the courtyard. In its center, a large wall covered in black and white marble was designed, which Tao describes as a work of art in itself. The air conditioning vents, the television screen, and a transparent, two-way fireplace, visible from both inside the house and the courtyard, were integrated into the wall. The connection between the technical systems and the natural pattern of the marble required detailed planning and a precise manufacturing process. “The creation of this wall required meticulous planning and phenomenal manufacturing work,” says Tao. “It is a huge and impressive wall, where all the systems fit together in a clean and precise way.”<\/p>\n

Separate courtyards adjoin the two levels of the house: a courtyard intended for children and a central courtyard adapted for entertaining. The central courtyard incorporates a large television screen, a pool with a waterfall, a wide table, seating areas, sun loungers, a shower, and a fully equipped outdoor kitchen. The two-way fireplace connects the living room to the courtyard, the large windows blur the line between inside and out, and the finishing materials continue the language established inside the house. Thus, the courtyard becomes a direct continuation of the living area and provides a comfortable space for the family that often gathers and spends time together.<\/p>\n

Tao, an architectural engineer with about 15 years of experience, heads an office in Karmiel that specializes mainly in the planning and design of private homes, construction and renovation projects, contractor apartments and guest villas. According to her, although the guiding principle in her work is modern and clean, each project develops from the character of the clients and from the way they want to live. “In most projects, I give a luxurious touch with a unique twist, maintaining symmetry and paying attention to the details of the connections,” she concludes. “But ultimately, the planning and design are tailored to the client, and this is where the differences between the projects come from. Some projects are softer and others are more modern.
