Two contractor apartments in a luxury tower opposite the beach in Hadera were combined into a spacious vacation apartment of approximately 300 square meters, with six rooms. The project, designed by interior designer Itamar Levi<\/strong>, was born from a clear vision: to allow the grandparents, the heads of the family, to gather around them their children and grandchildren and create a multi-generational meeting house – a place to come to on holidays, weekends and during life’s special moments.<\/p>\n

“When planning a house facing the sea, the natural temptation is to let the landscape do the work – to paint everything white, open large windows and let the blue outside be the image,” says Levy. “But in this project I wanted to do exactly the opposite. Not to frame the sea but to continue it inland.” From this concept, a design language was built that moves away from the expected appearance of an apartment on the shoreline, and seeks to create a house that has depth, movement and memory.<\/p>\n

The main inspiration for the project came from a personal item: a blue, hand-quilted kimono that had been passed down in the family and was planned to be displayed in the house as a work of art. “The family kimono, which was the source of inspiration, took center stage in the house,” says Levy. “It reminded us that a house is not built just from materials, but from memories. From items that are passed down through generations. From stories that continue to live on within new walls.” Around that item was born the color palette of the house, based on deep sea blues, celestial azures, and soft shades of sand, sky, and stone.<\/p>\n

From a planning perspective, the challenge was to create an apartment that would accommodate a large family in varying configurations – from a couple arriving alone to a full house of children and grandchildren. “Unifying two existing apartments is much more than connecting two spaces,” explains Levy. “This is a complex planning and technical process whose goal was to completely erase the boundary between the two original apartments and create the feeling of one house that was designed that way from the start.” The interior of the apartments was dismantled and redesigned from the ground up, with the exception of elements that could not be changed – radiators, receivers, columns, beams and certain existing systems. Connecting the apartments required precise work on the ceilings, floors and systems, so that all the technical seams would be integrated into one continuous, clean envelope.<\/p>\n

The renovation and execution work was led by The contractor Shalio Ben Gigi <\/strong>, who was responsible for dealing with the logistical and operational complexity of the project. The work included demolition, plasterwork, electricity, plumbing, air conditioning, flooring and cladding, showers and wet rooms, as well as lowering the ceiling with a combination of hidden systems. Since the project was carried out in an active residential building, complex transportation using cranes and hoists was also required, maintaining order and cleanliness throughout all stages of the work, and precise coordination between the professionals. In a project of this type, the quality of execution is what allows the planning process to appear natural, continuous and simple.<\/p>\n

In the complex process of uniting the two apartments, the parquet floor became one of the most significant anchors in the new identity of the house. A deep inky blue, almost black, fishbone floor was chosen, created by the company Metropark<\/strong> In the process of development and customization. High-quality raw oak parquet was selected, which underwent a series of color and finishing experiments in a palette until the exact shade was obtained. Each unit was painted individually, and a matte lacquer finish was chosen that deepens the color but prevents reflections and glare, a decision that was especially significant in a light-flooded Western apartment. “The blue pishbon floor became the imaginary bottom of the house – a deep and quiet layer from which everything grows,” describes Levy. Thus, the floor became a design and conceptual anchor: a new interpretation of the sea, not as a direct imitation but as a feeling of depth, movement and silence.<\/p>\n

The material palette continues the dialogue between the house and its surroundings. In contrast to the depth of the blue parquet, travertine stone was chosen, reminiscent of soft, light sand dunes in its texture and shades, and alongside it were white textiles, off-white, blue, azure and cool grays. The work was done with a tone-on-tone approach – no drama or strong contrasts, but silence, restraint and depth. Alongside aesthetics, emphasis was also placed on practicality: durable materials, easy to clean and maintain, which allow a house full of children and grandchildren to remain elegant but not disconnected from life itself.<\/p>\n

All the furniture in the house, both inside and out, was chosen by “niso Furniture<\/strong>” It was important to me that the furniture not feel like a collection of items that were inserted into the space, but rather as a direct continuation of the architectural language and the story of the house,” says Levy. The choice was for items with soft, rounded lines, ones that continue the natural movement of the environment – the lines of the waves, the sand and the dunes. “I deliberately avoided heavy, sharp and rigid furniture, which in my opinion does not match the character of a summer house. The luxury here comes precisely from softness, proportions and natural materiality.”<\/p>\n

The public space was given central importance, with a large living room that was not designed as a formal space, but as a family gathering area. The circular seating arrangement encourages eye contact, conversation, play, and shared time, and reinforces the idea that the heart of the house is not just the kitchen or the view, but the people in it. One of the key items chosen from the experiment is the dining table.<\/p>\n

“The homeowners’ requirement was for an especially large table that would accommodate all family members,” says Levy, “but it was important to me to avoid the appearance of a massive and heavy table or one based on extension solutions and external additions.” A table was chosen that is five meters long in its closed state, with clever side wings, which manages to combine impressive dimensions with a light and floating feeling. The choice of root wood in a sandy-smoky shade connected it to the material palette of the house and turned it into a natural element that looks as if it has always belonged in the space.<\/p>\n

The company was integrated into the kitchen and public carpentry solutions Regba Kitchens<\/strong>“One of the main challenges in designing the kitchen was to create maximum functionality and storage solutions, while maintaining an elegant, quiet and meticulous appearance that suits the character of a vacation apartment,” explains Levy. Since the homeowners are traditionalists, almost all functions in the kitchen were designed in duplicate – storage areas, electrical appliances and work surfaces, which created a significant challenge in planning and utilizing the space. “The goal was to provide a full response to these needs without turning the kitchen into a technical and heavy area within the house.<\/p>\n

” To reinforce the feeling that the kitchen is part of the architecture and not a separate element, all electrical appliances were integrated integrally, and its main color was matched to the color of the parquet. Beyond the kitchen itself, Regba also created complementary solutions throughout the house, designed as a direct continuation of the same language: an elegant chest of drawers combined with art, a wine cabinet that incorporates additional storage, a dedicated cabinet for hiding the washer and dryer, as well as the guest utility cabinet.<\/p>\n

From the public space, the planning continues to the private rooms, which were also designed with flexible family accommodation in mind and maintaining a sense of space. Some of the bedrooms used by the children and grandchildren have incorporated sleeping galleries, which allow for an increase in the number of sleeping places without overloading the space.<\/p>\n

In the couple’s master unit, the carpentry took on a particularly significant architectural role: Carpenter’s Scump <\/strong>were responsible for the most complex and challenging carpentry details in the project, ones that, in addition to meeting storage needs, become an integral part of the architecture of the house. The central element was the bedroom closet, which was designed as a complete carpentry wall and incorporates a hidden door at zero line leading to the bathroom.<\/p>\n

“The goal was to create a clean and continuous look, in which the transition between the spaces is integrated into the carpentry and does not appear as a standard opening,” explains Levy. This is a very complex detail from a planning and execution perspective, which required an especially high level of precision. In addition, Skompi carried out all of the carpentry details in the couple’s bathroom, including a solution for a concealed medicine cabinet integrated at zero line within a mirrored wall, with the desire to maintain full functionality without compromising the visual cleanliness of the space.<\/p>\n

Renby<\/strong> The up holstery fabrics, curtains, decorative pillows, decorative items and wallpapers that were incorporated throughout the house were selected, including the avant-garde wallpaper that emerges from the wall covering behind the double bed – a meeting between a natural and familiar material and a more artistic and bold layer.<\/p>\n

“Along with the clean architecture and the quiet material palette, it was important to me that the space not become monastic or flat, but rather would receive depth, warmth and visual richness through precise layers of textures and patterns,” says Levy. The inspiration was a Cape Cod-style summer house – “one that feels elegant, dressed and meticulous, but still light and breathable.” The play between the fabrics, the delicate patterns and the textures created a feeling of a house that developed in layers over time – rich but not busy, designed but not trying hard, and made the textiles an integral part of building the atmosphere and identity of the house.<\/p>\n

Ultimately, this vacation apartment doesn’t just want to impress. It’s designed to accommodate life, movement, children, family meals, holidays and weekends by the sea. “This project wasn’t born out of an attempt to design a luxury vacation apartment,” Levy concludes. “It was born out of a desire to create a place where time slows down a bit. A place where grandparents can look around a table full of children and grandchildren, facing that sea that always remains in motion, and know that something has been created here that will last long after the next weekend.”<\/p>\n
