Combining and balancing ease of use and visual appearance are at the center of all areas of design,

How to balance them in a way that one does not come at the expense of the other is the question for every designer.

In accessible budgets and apartments in buildings, where the framework is dictated in advance and cannot be changed, the task is even more complex,

Therefore, this time we will demonstrate how you can still achieve the goal and design an apartment that is both comfortable and pleasant,

Every corner of it is tailored like a glove to the customer’s body, yet demonstrates a classic design that stands the test of time.

Change of plan

The client turned to designer Tamar Shtamler with the goal of making all of her dreams come true here.

Tamar received the plans for the contractor’s apartment located in north Tel Aviv and made changes to it to suit the needs of the client, who often hosts her children and grandchildren.

The master bedroom was expanded at the expense of one of the rooms and gained a spacious and bright closet.

A closed pantry was designed next to the kitchen, allowing the open kitchen to be kept clean and tidy, and includes a freezer, an additional oven, and plenty of storage. In addition, Tamar designed a private guest wing in the back of the apartment, with a bedroom and en suite bathroom for the client’s adult children who are staying with her.

kitchen

“The client’s dream was an oven with the industrial look of La Cucina, and we designed the kitchen around it,” says Tamar. She placed the oven in the center of the island, which was designed as a rectangular shape.

R and wide. “The island is not narrow and long but more square. This way we created an open kitchen concept and a proportion that suited the space.”

For the island, a contrasting finish of dark, rich walnut wood and a porcelain granite worktop were chosen.

The tall cabinets are covered in durable Formica in a warm shade, and in their center stand out the special wall tiles that were specially ordered from Morocco, adding texture and shine to the space.

The left cabinet houses another work surface, on which electrical appliances such as a coffee machine were placed on a removable tray.

In this way, Tamar created an accessible and comfortable kitchen for the client, who cooks frequently, without compromising the representative appearance of the space.

Dining area

The designer called the style defined for the apartment “Rustic Modern“. It draws inspiration from the American style and is characterized by repetition, symmetry, and warm colors of stone, mocha, and sand.

Opposite the dining area, for example, she placed a pair of display cases that store and display the homeowner’s porcelain collection. A custom-made brass light fixture hangs above the dining area.

It is symmetrically designed and integrates aesthetically and harmoniously with the pair of bodies above the island.

living room

A storage unit from the “String” series hangs on the TV wall in the living room, giving a modern twist to the open space.

Here it is worth mentioning a few solutions chosen to optimally balance comfort, practicality, and aesthetics – the TV wall is covered in silk-like wallpaper that can be cleaned and adds depth to the space,

A comfortable swivel chair with refined lines was chosen, and the sofa and carpet were chosen only after checking that they allowed the use of a robotic vacuum cleaner.

Combining textures, such as the upholstery fabrics and double-layered curtains, adds interest and enriches the neutral color palette.

The hallway to the private spaces is accompanied by a large library, which includes open bookshelves and closed storage adapted for binders, albums, and paperwork, which are less suitable for the hospitality space.

Guest services

The fact that it was a contractor’s apartment required adjustments and flexibility in terms of planning and design: “There are many things that can’t be done in contractor apartments.

At the same time, we managed to maximize the space to make it the best possible without compromising on the things that really matter,” says Tamar.

In many contractor apartments, guest bathrooms are small and very limited. Here, the designer overcame the challenges with wall-to-wall joinery with an apron to hide the deck and a lower shelf.

Special light-colored tiles create a play of texture and a refined, elegant appearance.

Bedroom

The homeowner’s bedroom continues the design line of the entire apartment and was designed entirely with her in mind and a feminine, soft atmosphere.

Look, for example, at the line of the hanging light fixture and the golden handles that adorn the closets. As mentioned, one bedroom was canceled and the open closet room was designed in its place.

The highlight is the island, which allows for the placement of objects, includes ample storage, and stands alone as a design element.

Bedroom bathroom –

Here too, the play of textures and the combination of different finishes stand out to create interest alongside durability and easy maintenance.

For example, a glossy, prominent marble surface was designed, and tiles with a matte finish and sand color were chosen for the floor and wall coverings.

The nickel faucets and handles add shine, and Galina glass was chosen for the shower, which allows for privacy and adds more texture to the room.

To the right of the sink, a tall cabinet was designed for additional storage, and lighting fixtures were hung on both sides of the sink, creating a flattering and pleasant light.
