Meet Anna Weil, interior designer and owner of Wantym Studio, which was established in 2021 and specializes in residential planning and design.
Anna opened the studio after the split of ‘Studio Matka’, which she founded in 2007 together with Hila Gal.
For seven years, she lectured in a variety of courses in the Department of Interior, Building and Environmental Design at Shenkar, where she also studied. Anna sees each project as a topic for research and an opportunity to learn:“As a designer who works and intervenes in the built environment, I find that the work of planning and design is complex, multi-layered, and has a broad meaning and impact on people and the environment. The nature of the clients, the discussions we have around their lifestyles and habits, and my understanding of them – all of these drive my planning process.“Each project has a structured work process, and at the same time a unique approach and concept, which reflect and present a position,” she explains.
Welcome to a house in Herzliya that was designed for a family of five and a dog, and is located at the edge of the neighborhood, near a nature reserve.
The house, designed by Neuman Hainer Architects, was nicknamed ‘Carelessly Collected’.Anna explains: “Our main goal was to create, on the one hand, a ‘put-together’ look — one that feels elegant, cared for, and meticulous — and on the other, to maintain a natural, effortless feel. We wanted everything to look as if it had grown with the house and not been alien to it.”The house was designed on three levels, and as part of the work process and program analysis, deep thought was given to the essence of each room, present and future. And to combine different functions in the same room, so that it can serve all family members. “During the work, we discussed a lot about family life in a house with several levels,“With an emphasis on the desire to allow as much fusion and possibilities on each floor as possible,” says Anna. Accordingly, the staircase was planned and designed in a way that creates connection and continuity between the floors and blurs the separation between them.
Anna says that all the family members are bookworms, so she designed a library that runs along the staircase and also serves as a railing. “The library is divided into compartments of different sizes,“Some are partially closed with a perforated back in a pattern of circles of varying sizes. The compartments face a different direction each time, depending on the ease of access to the compartment,” she explains. On the ground floor are the living room and dining area, with an exit to the perimeter garden. In the center of the floor is the kitchen, built with a white iron frame and white wooden cabinets.
Above the island hangs an iron element with a shelf and hanging rod, and an open black shelving unit is used for jars and containers for everyday use.On the other side of the floor, a family corner was designed, separated from the entrance by a rotating panel: on one side the children can draw, and on the other side, racks for bags and hats were installed.“The rotating panel maintains the room’s sense of openness to the rest of the home, creating an opportunity for change and transformation,” adds the designer.
