A tall Tel Aviv tower or an old neighborhood with character?

For this family, the question was not geographical at all, but essential. They wanted to live the city, not observe it from the sidelines. To be a part of it, but not be swallowed up by its rhythm. The choice of an apartment in a renovated building, in one of the small northern neighborhoods of Tel Aviv, was born from a deep understanding of the power of a proper urban space. One that allows for a full everyday life, without sacrificing peace, light, and breathing.

The location embodies the interesting tension between city and nature. Immediate proximity to Yarkon Park, the nearby Bavli neighborhood, a quiet street with a neighborhood grocery store on the entrance floor, and above all, a sense of Tel Aviv that doesn’t try to impress. From the balcony, the city’s skyline unfolds, but the feeling is not of height or detachment, but of belonging. The city is present, but remains in the background.

The architectural envelope that was initially received was impressive in itself. A spacious, open and airy public space, connected to a small sun terrace overlooking the towers, and next to it a bedroom with a perimeter balcony overlooking the green neighborhood. From this data, a clear concept of a family Tel Aviv loft was woven, one that embraces the urban language but softens it through materials, proportions and precise planning.

The power of an urban apartment is expressed in the ability to maintain lightness even within a dense, built-up envelope. Here, lightness is not a slogan but a design principle. The loft language is translated into the choice of floating furniture, avoiding contact with walls and leaving lines of sight open. The sofa in the living room does not lean against a wall but is placed in the center of the space, defining a seating area without blocking the flow. The kitchen was designed as an independent unit, a modern and airy free-standing unit, without tall cabinets that burden the eye. The island, a central element of the house, is also designed as a floating block that allows free movement around it and maintains a sense of openness.

The material choices emphasize the same concept. A combination of natural wood, dark, precise tones, and clean work surfaces creates a balance between urban warmth and contemporary aesthetics. Natural light, penetrating through wide openings, plays a central role and sharpens the connection between inside and outside.

The bedroom continues the loft language but gives it a more intimate interpretation. It is an open space, almost an urban suite, designed as a quiet retreat in the heart of the city. At its center stands a uniquely designed and custom-made bed fromHollandiaChoosing a floating bed, which does not lean against a wall, is an architectural move in every sense of the word. It allows for free flow of space, emphasizes the feeling of floating and maintains lightness even in the most intimate area of the home.

The bed is not just a functional item but a sculptural element, one that combines high quality sleep, comfort and design precision. Hollandia, as a bed company specializing in custom-made, has enabled a design that responds to the dimensions of the space, the angles and the movement around it. A transparent glass table is integrated into the back of the bed, creating a minimalist work area that almost disappears from view. A smart solution that highlights how even in an urban apartment it is possible to incorporate additional functions without overloading.

The headboard, upholstered in a refined gray fabric with textural depth, was chosen as a quiet anchor for the room’s urban language. It is a subdued hue that allows the space to remain open and clean, almost neutral, yet one that maintains a clear material presence. Opposite it, the bed’s legs in a delicate powder pink create a soft departure from the expected and introduce a human and sensual touch into the urban minimalism. The encounter between the cool gray and the soft powder creates a sophisticated layer of interest, one that balances restraint with intimacy. Through this combination, the bed becomes not just a sleeping item, but a design statement that defines the entire room, emphasizing a sense of levitation and maintaining an elegant lightness, just as expected of a contemporary urban dream.

Behind a system of sliding glass doors, the bathroom space is revealed, continuing the same language of openness and control. A freestanding bathtub, a wide shower, and a dressing area with two sinks are integrated into the soft powder-toned joinery. The choice of glass allows for a constant play between exposure and intimacy, depending on the time of day and mood. The wardrobe, in a combination of iron and glass, maintains a boutique character with a clear nod to the worlds of urban hotels.

Ultimately, this apartment demonstrates what the urban dream looks like when planned correctly. Not as a pursuit of height or a statement, but as a space that understands the city and knows how to contain it. A home that allows you to live in Tel Aviv, enjoy the immediate urban benefits, and at the same time maintain lightness, quiet, and a true sense of freedom.
