In recent years, the bedroom has become the central space in the home, not only as a functional space, but as a space that directly affects the quality of life. Hollandia, which began its journey in 1981, leads the world of sleep in Israel, combining comfort, innovation, design and many years of expertise. Alongside bedroom solutions, Hollandia now also offers solutions for other spaces in the home, including guest rooms, dens, living rooms and seating areas, and luxurious armchairs, from a broad perspective of comfort, practicality and aesthetics.
Behind the brand stands a clear vision: to raise awareness of the importance and quality of sleep and to offer the consumer a complete package, from the selection stage in the store to daily use at home. In a conversation withIdan Katz, CEO of Hollandia, and Deborah Mirilashvili, VP of the chainThey talk about the way in which awareness of the importance of sleep quality is rising and becoming significant, about the changes in the consumption habits of the Israeli public, about the connection between sleep quality, design and hygiene, and also about the increasingly profound understanding of sleep as an essential component of our physical and mental health, and as a direct basis for quality of life.
“The Israeli audience, especially in recent years, attaches great importance to sleep quality,” says Katz. According to him, the customer’s choice today is based on a clear combination of comfort and design, which is why Hollandia seeks to offer not only high sleep quality, but also a broad design solution, suitable for homes in a classic, modern or eclectic style. Along with innovation, maximum comfort and precise support, he also emphasizes the broad envelope that the company provides to the consumer throughout the purchase and use experience, and the fact that, according to him, customers return over the years and testify that this is not just a good purchase, but a product that affects the quality of life.

SICILY model bedWhat is the vision that leads the company, and what makes Hollandia unique within the bedroom and mattress sector in Israel?
Mirilashvili: “One of the most significant things for us is the attention to both sleep quality and design. The customer can choose from a variety of relevant models, but also go for a customized design. We can adapt ourselves to a personal design with adjustable bases and mattresses, as well as integrate with an existing design for those who want to upgrade their quality of life through good sleep.”
We provide a broad and comprehensive package in terms of the sleep experience and sleep hygiene, at the highest level of expertise in the country. For us, sleep hygiene begins before we even get into bed; it affects how we fall asleep and how we should go to sleep. Avi Bersest, the company’s owner, is the representative of the International Sleep Organization in Israel, an expert and lecturer in the field, and has written five books, with a sixth on the way. Throughout the years, from 1981 to the present, Hollandia’s main goal and vision have been to raise awareness of the importance of sleep, from the most basic level, through children’s sleep to afternoon naps and its importance to quality of life and the rest of the day.”
BAGIRA model bedHow do you create a bedroom today that is both beautiful, calm, and functional?
Katz: “In the past, the bedroom was intended only for sleeping. Today, it is important for us to be comfortable in bed, not just at night. Thanks to an adjustable mechanism, we can, for example, work from bed, take a power nap during the day, read a good book, or chat with our partner. Our time in the bedroom has become more significant and is no longer limited to the nighttime hours, so it is very important for us to be comfortable in order to accommodate the variety of activities we do in the bedroom. Various activities have moved from the living room to the bedroom, and the more comfortable we are, the more time we will want to spend in bed. Therefore, a good bedroom today should be both pleasant, functional, and one that allows us to truly live in it.”
Katz adds: “Today, interior designers understand much more deeply the meaning of sleeping on a wide surface. It used to be common to reduce the width of the mattress, today it is important to sleep wide, where each partner has their own space to turn around and move freely.”

Bed Model: AUPINGHas the way people choose a bed, mattress, or bedroom changed today compared to the past?
Katz: “Yes, and we see it clearly. Today there is a clear trend to choose higher beds than in the past. A high bed has a hygienic advantage in terms of cleanliness, and also a functional advantage; the higher the sleeping surface, the more comfortable it is to get up from it. The world of bedding boxes has passed away, and today there are other storage solutions that allow the space under the bed to remain airy and clean and create a floating appearance. Hygiene is especially important for those who are sensitive to dust mites.
There has also been a real change in the width of the bed. If in the past it was accepted that the size of the mattress was 140 by 190 cm, today most customers choose a width of 180 cm or king size, 200 cm, and we definitely recommend these sizes. We spend 95 percent of our time in the bedroom in bed, so it is important that it be spacious, because spacious sleep is a more quality and luxurious sleep.”

Bed Model: AUPINGHow does technological innovation enter a world that is very emotional, personal, and domestic?
Mirilashvili: “We place emphasis not only on the mattress itself, but also on the surface on which it is placed, and on other elements that affect the sleeping experience, such as a pillow, for example. A pillow has a very large impact on the sleeping experience, and our customers enjoy the process of adjusting a pillow and even note its effect on improving sleep quality.
Katz: “Hollandia is also the exclusive importer in Israel of TEMPUR, a unique material developed at NASA, in conjunction with a team of world-class scientists, and made of a pressure-absorbing polymer that adapts itself to the body and distributes its weight evenly and uniformly. Its pressure-absorbing and weight-distributing capabilities are among the highest in the world. It is a material that has changed the quality of people’s lives, and many define it as a miracle and divide their lives before and after being introduced to it.” TEMPUR is marketed to over 100 countries around the world, and in Israel, Hollandia is the exclusive importer.
Is there a common misconception about mattresses, beds, or bedroom design that you would be happy to shatter?
Katz: “I think one of the misconceptions is that it’s enough to choose a good mattress, and that’s it. In reality, the sleeping experience is much broader. It is also related to the surface on which the mattress is placed, the pillow, the height of the bed, its width, and aspects of sleep hygiene.”
Mirilashvili: “Another perception is that quality sleep and premium solutions are something that is not accessible to everyone. Hollandia is perceived as a luxury premium company, and sometimes people don’t think they can afford to buy from us. But we are also working to make quality sleep accessible to additional audiences.” Hollandia has made several moves in recent years that have made sleep accessible so that everyone can afford good, quality sleep. The first move was made at the beginning of the Iron Swords War – a move that, in collaboration with the global TEMPUR company, allows for only 89 NIS without interest, without linkage and without taking a sleeping frame on the best mattress in the world.
Another move that makes sleep accessible to every home in Israel is the A-series of beds that allow for easy entry into a comfortable sleep on a designed and comfortable bed with a Hollandia mattress. 3 beds in different and special designs that allow entry into the world of luxurious sleep with Hollandia.
What does Hollandia’s work look like with architects and interior designers, and what is important to you in this relationship?
Mirilashvili: “We see the relationship with architects and interior designers as a partnership, a personal friendship, even far beyond a working relationship. They are partners in everything. More and more designers understand, cherish and appreciate the shared path. Over the years, thousands of designers have been added to the family circle of working with Hollandia out of an understanding of the importance of the bedroom in the project, and their responsibility for choosing the bedroom. The bedroom should be in harmony with the entire house, with us, customers will remember every morning who was responsible for their quality sleep experience.”
The designers who work with the brand also reinforce this image.Interior designer Yael ShavitShe says: “I really love working with Hollandia, and their beds star in almost every project I do. Since I design a lot of apartments in the center, where the bedrooms are not large, I usually look for beds that will allow me the maximum sense of size in the space, without compromising on beauty, comfort, and design. At Hollandia, I find beds with a minimalist and smart design.”
Adi Klein, owner and director of DULU Studio, notes the ability to customize: “Hollandia, as a bed company specializing in custom-made beds, allows us to design a bed that responds to the dimensions of the space, the angles, and the movement around it. With their help, we created a bed that is not just a functional item, but a sculptural element, one that combines high sleep quality, comfort, and design precision.”
How do you help professionals integrate your products into high-end residential projects?
Katz: “Stylistically, the entire world of design has undergone a revolution in recent years. In the past, two styles stood out, modern and rustic. Today, there are combinations of styles, and we have diverse solutions for bed frames that we import from the Netherlands and Italy, among others. These are frames that bring a special design language, allow for a headboard with presence, while at the same time maintaining a minimalist frame that takes up less space, so that the sleeping surface remains as wide as possible. Our design is timeless, and the frame remains as stable and new as on the day of purchase, thanks to the quality materials we import, such as birch wood and aluminum. People invest a lot in renovations, and it is important for them to know that the bed will continue to be relevant even when moving or in future changes to the home.”

Bed Model: AUPINGHow are changes in living habits, hospitality, and home design reflected in the products and solutions you offer today?
Mirilashvili: “Hollandia no longer belongs only to the bedroom. It enters other rooms in the house, such as guest rooms with sofas that open into beds and combine design, practicality and mobility within the room, using a unique patent that allows the sofa to be moved within the space, without compromising on a luxurious and high-quality mattress at a height of 16 cm. In the current period, and in recent years in particular, the need for a sofa that opens into a bed has greatly increased, a product that must meet several criteria at the same time: comfort while sitting, easy transition between the two positions, a minimalist and elegant appearance and a high-quality mattress for sleeping. Here too, our products provide a solution to all of these, and also to the issue of hygiene, through a unique wheel system that allows the furniture to be moved within the room and cleaned underneath it. A solution that also allows for the separation of rooms if necessary for several nights following the illness of one of the spouses, a hospitality solution for the holidays, and in general, as a people who love to host and open their hearts… Hollandia provides a 360-degree solution for a sleeping and hospitality experience at the highest level.
Hollandia wishes all the House of Israel a kosher and happy holiday, and may we know peaceful days.
