Meet Michal Matalon, engineer, interior designer and studio ownerHomeMakerfor planning and design. She founded the firm 17 years ago, “out of a love for architecture that combines precision, emotion and connection to the environment.”

“Our way of working is based on deep listening, meticulous design, and a harmonious combination of old and new, natural and personal,” she says.

The studio specializes in private homes, boutique hotels, and the preservation of historic buildings, with an emphasis on a unique living and hospitality experience. “My philosophy is to put the client at the center,

When their needs and dreams are the driving force behind my design thinking and the solutions I offer, from a holistic approach that focuses on comfort, practicality, and creating a pleasant and functional environment.”

Welcome to a private home in the Western Galilee, designed for a family of five, on a 730 square meter lot located on a cliff overlooking Nahal Zippori.

The house is 250 square meters, and it was clear to Michal from the first stage that the view should be at the heart of the planning.

Accordingly, the main functions of the house were oriented towards the open landscape, and large windows were designed to reveal the surroundings from every direction.

“The house combines a sense of calm, material tranquility, and a life that exists right in the midst of nature,” says Michal.

A staircase made of Corten steel leads to the impressive entrance door, which rises two stories high. To the left of the entrance, a carpentry cube covered in oak veneer was designed,

Contains technical systems, a pantry, and more, and connects to the kitchen, in the center of which is an impressive island with a black granite work surface.

Opposite the carpentry unit is a wooden and iron staircase with a piano placed beneath it. At the end of the public space is the living room, which is almost entirely surrounded by tall windows.

A TV wall in a Hamra shade conceals storage and air conditioning, and incorporates an iron profile for storage and display. The view is also an essential element on the upper floor, where children’s suites, a family room with a kitchenette and access to a spacious balcony, and an additional suite for the parents were designed.

The double unit is also wrapped in windows and next to it is a dramatic bathroom, with a shower completely covered in a Hamra shade and a large window facing the garden. Outside, various seating areas have been designed for relaxation and entertaining, as well as a kitchen with a bar. An infinity pool is located between the guest areas and the view – “You can have a conversation between the water and the pergola – a perfect combination of hospitality and relaxation,” concludes Michal.
