Malka is a kosher restaurant in Palm Beach, Florida, designed as a tribute to Israeli craftsmanship and innovation.The project was designed and built by Kimmel Eshkolot, an award-winning Tel Aviv studio known for its work in the fields of public buildings, culture and interior design. The architect in charge was Mor Gelfand, accompanied by a planning team led by Shani Kenzi. The restaurant was planned, designed and manufactured entirely in Israel, down to the smallest detail. Most of the raw materials, from natural stone, to hand-crafted metal details and specially designed concrete blocks, were manufactured in Israel and shipped to the U.S. in containers.
One of the key elements of the design is a unique concrete block, developed in collaboration with the Ackerstein Company. Approximately 15,000 units of it define the restaurant’s 450-square-meter space, dividing it into areas with varying degrees of privacy – from an open bar area to intimate dining rooms and outdoor seating. The outdoor garden is designed with local vegetation, inspired by a Mediterranean forest, and at the entrance stands an olive tree that has been preserved through a unique preservation process. This aesthetic is also reflected in the artwork of Israeli artist Michal Rovner, which includes images of cypresses on the restaurant’s walls.
The design process involved collaboration with Israeli professionals and consultants, including experts in the fields of lighting, stone, metal and concrete. At the center of the architectural design is the element of fire. The open kitchen includes a live fire, around which the bar and dining tables were designed, and together they create a warm and intimate meeting point. This spatial arrangement reinforces the culinary vision of Chef Eyal Shani, who leads the restaurant’s rich and kosher menu.
